Angola’s revamped national carrier, TAAG Angola Airlines has confirmed 23 June 2026 as the launch date for its inaugural direct service to Guangzhou, marking a significant expansion of the national carrier’s intercontinental network and a major step in strengthening air connectivity between Africa and Asia.
The announcement was made in Luanda on 2 June during an official launch event hosted by TAAG Angola Airlines, attended by Angolan and Chinese institutional representatives, members of the diplomatic corps, corporate clients and key stakeholders from the aviation sector. The event also marked the formal opening of ticket sales for the new route.

The new service will link Luanda to Guangzhou, one of Asia’s most important economic, industrial and logistics centres. Flights will operate from Dr. António Agostinho Neto International Airport, located on the outskirts of the Angolan capital, further reinforcing the airport’s growing role as a regional and international aviation gateway.
In its initial phase, the Luanda–Guangzhou route will operate once weekly, with departures from Angola scheduled every Tuesday. The service will be operated using the Boeing 787 Dreamliner, a next-generation aircraft recently added to TAAG’s fleet, offering improved fuel efficiency, reduced environmental impact and enhanced passenger comfort on long-haul journeys.
According to the airline, the launch of the Guangzhou route represents a strategic milestone in TAAG’s international growth plan. It positions the carrier as an increasingly important connector between Africa and Asia, facilitating the movement of people, goods and capital between two regions with deepening economic ties.
China and Angola maintain long-standing bilateral relations underpinned by a sizeable resident community, strong corporate cooperation and sustained trade and investment flows across sectors such as energy, construction, manufacturing, logistics and infrastructure development. Against this backdrop, the new air link is expected to play a pivotal role in strengthening institutional, commercial, tourism and cultural exchanges between the two countries.
From a commercial perspective, the Guangzhou service supports TAAG’s broader objective of building a more competitive intercontinental network while diversifying its long-haul destinations beyond traditional markets. The route also aligns with Angola’s ambitions to leverage aviation as a catalyst for trade facilitation, foreign direct investment and tourism growth.
Operationally, the new connection enhances the strategic value of Dr. António Agostinho Neto International Airport, which has been designed to function as a multi-modal hub capable of handling increased passenger and cargo traffic. By adding a direct link to southern China, TAAG is helping to position Angola as a potential gateway for Asian businesses seeking access to African markets.

The airline says the new service reflects its continued commitment to the development of Angolan civil aviation and to strengthening connectivity between strategic geographies. It also reinforces Angola’s profile as an emerging aviation hub on the continent, with improved access to global economic centres.
With the countdown to the inaugural flight now underway, industry observers see the Luanda–Guangzhou route as a timely addition that responds to growing demand for direct Africa–Asia air services and underscores TAAG Angola Airlines’ evolving role in the continent’s long-haul aviation landscape.
