Africa’s First Golf Tourism and Investment Convention Takes Shape

Africa’s first dedicated golf tourism and investment convention has officially been launched, positioning the sport as a strategic catalyst for destination development, infrastructure growth and high-value travel across the continent.
The African Golf Tourism Convention (AGTC) is a pioneering platform designed to connect Africa’s golf destinations with global investors, tourism authorities, developers and experience curators. Its core focus is on unlocking long-term tourism value through golf-led travel, while attracting investment into destinations, resorts and supporting infrastructure.
Scheduled to take place from 18–21 August 2026 at Sun City Resort, the convention will spotlight Africa’s growing relevance as a premium golf and leisure destination. Over four days, AGTC will showcase the continent’s championship courses, integrated resorts, lifestyle experiences and investment-ready opportunities to a global audience.
AGTC Founder and Director Neo Peete, a golf event specialist with more than a decade of experience across professional tours and destination-led tournaments, says the convention was born out of the need to reposition golf as a serious tourism and economic driver in Africa.
“Golf tourism has enormous potential on this continent, but it has not yet been fully activated,” Peete says. “Africa offers world-class courses, natural beauty, favourable climates and increasingly sophisticated hospitality. AGTC creates a space to connect golf with tourism strategy, destination investment and long-term economic growth.”
The choice of Sun City as host destination reflects this positioning. Long regarded as one of Africa’s most established leisure resorts, Sun City offers championship golf, integrated accommodation and conferencing facilities, and strong international accessibility – aligning with AGTC’s ambition to operate at a global level while remaining rooted in Africa.
Nthabiseng Manonyane of the North West Parks and Tourism Board noted during the launch that hosting the inaugural convention presents a significant opportunity for the province and the wider tourism economy.
“This convention has the potential to drive meaningful tourism impact,” she says. “It will attract high-value visitors, stimulate local spending, support job creation and position the North West as a destination for both leisure and investment. Golf tourism also encourages longer stays and repeat visitation, which benefits the broader value chain.”
Support for AGTC has also been expressed at continental level. Speaking during World Travel Market Africa in Cape Town, African Tourism Board Chairperson Cuthbert Ncube welcomed the initiative as timely and strategically important.
“Africa must develop its own platforms that keep tourism value within the continent,” Ncube said. “Golf tourism is a powerful vehicle for this because it attracts high-spending travellers and supports destination development. I am particularly encouraged that AGTC is being led by women and driven by an African vision.”
The four-day programme will include keynote addresses from global and regional experts, panel discussions focused on golf tourism development, sustainability, destination branding and infrastructure investment, alongside curated golf experiences that allow delegates to experience host destinations first-hand.
Globally, golf tourism is one of the fastest-growing travel segments, delivering strong economic returns through premium visitors, extended stays and off-season travel. Africa’s largely under-explored golf landscape, combined with its cultural richness and improving accessibility, positions the continent as a compelling frontier for future growth.
The African Golf Tourism Convention is expected to attract delegates from Africa, Europe, the Middle East and the Americas, creating a focused platform for partnerships, destination promotion and investment conversations.
Registration is now open, with organisers encouraging early engagement from tourism boards, investors, developers, resorts and destination stakeholders via www.agtc.africa.
