All Set for Official Launch of Inaugural Africa Golf Tourism Convention 2026

Africa is preparing to stake its claim at the centre of the multi-billion-dollar global golf travel industry with the official rollout of the inaugural Africa Golf Tourism Convention (AGTC) 2026. Driven by a clear mission – “One Continent. Many Fairways. One Marketplace.” – the high-profile platform is designed to transform the continent’s fragmented golf offerings into a structured, highly profitable and investable economic ecosystem.

Organisers confirm that momentum for the maiden edition officially accelerates with a dedicated Media Launch scheduled for Thursday, 9 July 2026 at 10h00. Hosted at Birchwood Hotel in Boksburg, the media launch serves as the critical curtain-raiser for the main convention, slated to run from 18 to 21 August 2026.

Boksburg is a historic gold-mining and industrial city in the East Rand region of Gauteng Province. It forms part of the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality, located approximately 30 km east of central Johannesburg and just 15 km south of O.R. Tambo International Airport – offering ideal accessibility for international delegates.

Positioning Africa Through Sport and Investment

For too long, Africa’s premium golf courses, compelling tourism landscapes and improving intra-continental air connectivity have operated in isolation. AGTC 2026 changes the game by establishing a dedicated business-to-business (B2B) marketplace. The convention will convene international tour operators, tourism authorities, hospitality brands, property developers and policymakers to unlock long-term trade and investment opportunities.

Speaking on the strategic vision behind the initiative, Neo Peete, Founder of the Africa Golf Tourism Convention, stressed its focus on structural economic impact.

“Africa has world-class golf courses, exceptional tourism assets and improving international connectivity, yet golf tourism across the continent has remained fragmented,” Peete observed.

“AGTC is about creating a credible, structured marketplace that connects African destinations directly with the global golf tourism ecosystem – while catalysing trade, investment and long-term partnerships. This is not simply an event, but a platform for sustainable growth.”

Unrivalled Regional Backing

The timing of the convention aligns with a powerful surge in both local and international momentum. Gauteng is rapidly cementing its status as a leading sports tourism hub, underscored by the province securing the historic, first-ever LIV Golf tournament on African soil in March 2026.

Recognising this potential, the Gauteng Convention & Events Bureau (GCEB) has offered formal institutional endorsement. Ms Nonnie Kubeka, Head of the GCEB, noted that the platform aligns squarely with regional economic development and job-creation priorities.

“As a province, Gauteng continues to demonstrate its capacity to host international sporting and business events that drive economic growth and employment,” Kubeka said. “We are confident that AGTC will strengthen this momentum while positioning Gauteng – and Africa – more prominently within the global golf tourism marketplace.”

Experiential Value and Luxury Showcases

Running from 18 to 21 August, the main convention programme will blend high-level corporate dialogue with experiential networking. Core business sessions, B2B matchmaking and policy discussions will be anchored at the Birchwood Hotel & OR Tambo Conference Centre, before moving onto the fairways for a dedicated Golf and Demonstration Day.

This premium experiential showcase will take place at Serengeti Estates, home to a world-renowned **Jack Nicklaus Signature-designed championship golf course. The experience will allow global buyers and investors to engage first-hand with Africa’s luxury sports and lifestyle infrastructure.

Among other highlights, the media launch will serve as the official platform to unveil key partners, sponsors, headline speakers, thematic focus areas and programme details, offering the first comprehensive insight into this landmark tourism, trade and sport event for Africa.

Industry stakeholders seeking to connect with international buyers, golf estates and hospitality groups are encouraged to secure their participation. More information is available at: www.agtc.africa. Alternatively, RSVPs can be directed to Zylvah Makola via [email protected].
