TAAG Angola Airlines Launches Direct Guangzhou Service, Strengthening Angola–China Connectivity

TAAG Angola Airlines has officially launched its new scheduled service linking Angola directly to Guangzhou, marking a major milestone in the airline’s international expansion strategy and further strengthening air connectivity between Africa and Asia.

The launch was commemorated with an official ceremony in Guangzhou attended by senior government representatives, members of the diplomatic corps, business leaders and strategic partners from both Angola and China, underlining the strategic importance of the new air link for bilateral relations, trade and economic cooperation.

Direct Link Between Two Strategic Economic Hubs

The new route connects Dr. António Agostinho Neto International Airport, located in Icolo e Bengo on the outskirts of Luanda, with Guangzhou, one of China’s foremost economic, industrial and commercial centres. The service is operated using TAAG’s Boeing 787 Dreamliner, offering enhanced passenger comfort, improved fuel efficiency and increased operational performance.

In its initial phase, the route will operate once weekly, with departures from Angola on Tuesday mornings and return flights from Guangzhou on Friday evenings. The schedule provides a direct and efficient connection between two markets with longstanding economic, commercial and institutional ties.

Boosting Trade, Tourism And Business Mobility

The launch of the Guangzhou service represents an important step in TAAG’s growth trajectory and supports Angola’s broader ambition to position itself as a strategic gateway between Africa and major global markets. The direct connection is expected to facilitate business travel, stimulate tourism flows, strengthen bilateral trade and improve cargo transportation between the two countries.

For corporate travellers, investors and logistics operators, the route offers new efficiencies by reducing travel time and improving access to one of Asia’s most dynamic commercial regions.

Angola–China Economic Relations In Focus

The new service comes amid deepening economic engagement between China and Africa. In 2025, trade between China and the African continent exceeded USD 348 billion, reaching a record high. Angola remains among Africa’s leading exporters to the Chinese market, alongside South Africa and the Democratic Republic of the Congo, with the three countries accounting for more than half of Africa’s total exports to China.

During the same period, Chinese exports to Africa grew by more than 25 per cent, reflecting sustained growth in trade, investment and logistics flows between the two regions. The introduction of direct air connectivity is expected to further support this upward trajectory by facilitating the movement of people, goods and capital.

Strengthening TAAG’s International Network

With the addition of Guangzhou, TAAG continues to expand its long-haul international network while reinforcing its role as a key connector between Africa and global markets. The route also aligns with the airline’s strategy of leveraging Dr. António Agostinho Neto International Airport as a modern regional and intercontinental hub.

TAAG says the new service reaffirms its commitment to the development of Angolan civil aviation, the strengthening of strategic international partnerships and the promotion of Angola as a preferred entry point into Africa.
